Quick answer

Mich Barn builds post-frame garages, shops and horse barns across northern Oakland County — Holly, Ortonville, Oxford, Addison, Highland, Milford, Rose, Springfield and Groveland townships. Oakland leads Michigan with 1,627 new single-family permits at an average of $445,000 per unit. We are 45 to 60 minutes from most of the northern county.

We focus on the northern and western townships deliberately. South Oakland is dense subdivision where a detached post-frame building usually is not permitted and often would not fit. North of M-59 the parcels get big, the zoning gets permissive, and the ask changes to something worth building: a heated shop with a lift, an RV barn with 16-foot sidewalls, a stall barn on ten acres.

What to expect here: Oakland townships tend to want engineered drawings up front and are stricter than average on setbacks, impervious surface and sometimes exterior materials. Highland, Milford and Oxford in particular will ask questions a rural township would not. We handle that paperwork, and we price the building assuming it has to look good from the road — because in these townships it does.

Pole barns in North Oakland County — common questions

Can you build a pole barn in Oakland County?

Yes — we build across the northern and western Oakland townships, where parcel sizes and zoning support detached post-frame buildings. That includes Holly, Ortonville, Oxford, Addison, Highland, Milford, Rose, Springfield and Groveland. South Oakland subdivisions usually do not allow them.

Will my Oakland County township allow a pole barn?

It depends on the township and often on the parcel size. Northern Oakland townships generally allow accessory structures on acreage but regulate size, setbacks, height and sometimes exterior materials. We check the specific ordinance before quoting rather than after.

How much does a pole barn cost in Oakland County?

Oakland projects follow Michigan pricing — roughly $18 to $38 per square foot for the shell — but trend toward the higher end because township requirements and expectations push toward finished exteriors, matching trim and better door packages.

Do you build RV storage buildings?

Regularly, and northern Oakland is where most of them go. A Class A motorhome needs 16-foot sidewalls and a 14-by-14 door at minimum. Bring us the actual unit dimensions — coach heights vary more than people expect.
