How much does a barndominium cost in Michigan?

Do banks finance barndominiums in Michigan?
Increasingly yes, as appraisers see more comparables, but not every local lender is comfortable with them. Plan to talk to two or three lenders, and expect the process to go smoother with detailed builder drawings and specs — which an engineered Lester package provides.
Do I need a residential building permit for a barndominium?
Yes. A barndominium is a house in the eyes of your township: full residential building permit, residential code compliance for the living portion, and zoning that allows a residence on the parcel. Check zoning before buying land — it is the most expensive mistake in barndo planning.
What is a "shouse"?
A shop-house: a post-frame building that is mostly shop with a finished living section attached, usually smaller on the living side than a full barndominium. Same structure, different proportion.
